The Fusion Reactor is a Tritium powered energy generator created by Dr. Otto Octavius. The device uses harmonic reinforcement to create a perpetual sun that could serve as a source of renewable energy.

When Harry Osborn became Oscorp Technologies' head of Special Projects, he decided to fund Octavius' experiment and hope it would outshine the achievements of his father. Octavius built the generator and designed a smart arms device that could be used to control the fusion reaction. During the device's initial test, it quickly became clear that the artificial sun could not be contained and the reactor started to destroy the facility. The unstable fusion reaction has a magnetic effect that draws metallic objects like a magnet towards the generator. As the experiment overloaded, Rosalie Octavius was killed by flying shards of glass debris. Spider-Man was able to sever the reactor's power source which caused the device to explode. After Octavius recovered from his injuries, he became coerced by the artificial intelligence in his mechanical tentacles became obsessed with re-creating the experiment. This led to him taking on the identity of Doctor Octopus and turning to a life of crime so he could fund a larger version of the reactor. After Doc Ock completed and activated his new reactor, Peter Parker was eventually able to reach his humanity and convinced him to destroy the device to protect instant lives. Octavius was able to take control of the tentacles and chose to destroy the reactor by drowning it in the river.
