Spider-Man is a fictional character, based on the comic book superhero who appears in Marvel Comics. He was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962. He was portrayed by Nicholas Hammond as the protagonist in the The Amazing Spider-Man and the following television series and "made for TV" movies that it also spawned.

History

The Amazing Spider-Man

Peter Parker is a humble New York citizen who lived alone with his adoptive aunt May Parker. He worked as a freelance photographer for J. Jonah Jameson, the chief editor at The Daily Bugle newspaper. One day he was bitten by a radioactive spider which gave him superhuman powers, including super-strength, agility and the ability to climb sheer walls and ceilings. He then invented a super-sticky web serum and donned a masked costume to began fighting crime in New York city as the superhero known as Spider-Man.

One day a mysterious Guru surfaces in town and hypnotizes people under his control to rob several banks to steal money. The guru also blackmails the city's authorities to pays him $50 million or else he will have ten New York citizens under his control commit suicide. Peter becomes aware of the scheme and dons his crime-fighting gear and foils the Guru's plans, restoring peace and justice in the city.

Spider-Man Strikes Back

One of Peter Parker's tutors at the New York State University accidentally gave three students all the materials they need to create an atomic bomb. While Peter tries to discover what's happened, the police suspect him of the crime. Peter also becomes involved with an attractive journalist by the name of Gale Hoffman, who will do anything to have a chance to interview Spider-Man personally. However, Mr. White, a millionaire businessman and munitions dealer, has his henchmen steal the plutonium so that he can make his own atomic bomb. Spider-Man has to defeat White in order to stop him blowing up the World Trade Centre in New York.

Spider-Man: The Dragon's Challenge

Mr. Jameson asks Peter to help prove the innocence of one of his old college friends, Min Lo Chan. Peter also becomes involved with his daughter, Emily Chan who also lives in New York. However, a wealthy Hong Kong industrialist who is being considered to build a billion dollar power plant for the Chinese Government constantly attempts to foil Spider-Man in his attempts to clear Chan's name.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

  • Superhuman Strength: Spider-Man has considerable superhuman strength, due to it having the proportional strength of a spider. This also extends to his legs, being able to jump 20 to 30 feet in the air.
  • Superhuman Speed: Spider-Man can move faster than an ordinary human and is adept at dodging quickly.
  • Superhuman Agility: Spider-Man has great dexterity and balance, and can evade danger more faster than ordinary human can.
  • Superhuman Durability: Spider-Man's body is resistant towards impact force, as he has taken a punches and kicks from criminals, without any serious injuries.
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Spider-Man's metabolism allows him to rapidly heal from harm faster and more extensively than normal humans can recover from.
  • Spider-Sense: Spider-Man has an alerted sixth sense, his acute senses that let them evade danger, allowing his natural senses to be heightened as well.
  • Wall-Crawling: Spider-Man can adhere to walls, ceilings, and other surfaces in order to scale them and was able to crawl all over the outside of his house.

Abilities

  • Gifted Intelligence: Peter Parker is a highly intelligent science enthusiast, with aptitudes in science. He was able to make a chemical compound, similar to webs of a spider and with it, Peter made a special contraption called web-shooters that gave him the ability to shoot webs.
  • Skilled Photographer: Peter Parker is a very skilled photographer, taking pictures for the tabloid newspaper company, the Daily Bugle.

Equipment

  • Spider-Man Suit: After discovering his powers, Peter Parker made a skin tight red and blue suit with a mask and eye lenses on the mask and two spiders on the front and back both in different looking designs.
  • Web-Shooters: Peter Parker uses web-shooters that are mounted onto his wrist, after making them in a laboratory. Spider-Man uses his web-shooters for various purposes, such as deactivating multiple devices, immobilizing opposing enemies and swing on a webline.
